At launch, both apps are free to use with your own OpenAI key. Subscription plans with a monthly allowance are on the way, for anyone who would rather not deal with OpenAI.

Bring your own key is the only option when the apps launch. The API key guide takes you through setting it up, which takes about five minutes.
Each invoice and each new customer you submit to your accounts. Drafts, re-recordings and corrections won't count.
The app will tell you clearly. Your allowance resets at the start of each month, and you'll be able to move up to a bigger plan at any time.
Yes, when plans first arrive. If that ever changes, people using it will get plenty of notice.
Through the App Store, like any other subscription on your iPhone. Apple handles the billing, so we never see your card details.
Slightly. With your own key, recordings go straight from your phone to OpenAI. On a plan, they'll go to OpenAI through a small server of ours that holds our key and counts your usage. Each app's privacy policy will be updated before plans launch, and bring your own key will keep working exactly as it does now.
No. ChatGPT Plus and the other ChatGPT plans are separate from OpenAI's API, and you don't need one on any plan.
